Key node and focal group

Key nodes

Key nodes are used to delineate orthogroups by identifying basal nodes in estimated gene trees (see below). They are selected from broadly accepted nodes in the species tree.

Focal group Key nodes

Actinopterygii Teleostomi, Gnathostomata, or Vertebrata
Mammalia Amniota, Tetrapoda, or Sarcopterygii
Vertebrata Olfactores, Chordata, or Deuterostomia
Deuterostomia Nephrozoa or Bilateria
Protostomia Nephrozoa or Bilateria
Acropora Scleractinia, Anthozoa, or Cnidaria
Plants Mesangiospermae

Focal group

Focal group indicates the group of organisms that users are interested in. Selecting a focal group corresponds to choosing the hierarchical orthologous groups (Sarton-Loheac et al. 2025). To select a focal group that matches their research interest, users should choose the appropriate top page, such as "ORTHOSCOPE: Deuterostomes" or "ORTHOSCOPE: Acropora."
